Watching the pharmaceutical ads on TV you can get the impression that it’s normal to live with pain. But before you reach for yet another pain reliever, think about whether you want to simply mask the pain or improve your health once and for all with the help of naturopathy.

Here are five reasons to give it a go.

1. Identify and treat the cause
Did you know that symptoms are signs from your body that it’s unwell? Pain or discomfort are expressions of your body’s attempt to defend, adapt, recover and heal itself. In other words, they provide clues to the cause of illnesses. A naturopath will help you maintain optimal health by identifying and then removing the underlying illness – not just suppressing the symptoms.

2. Supportive care
It’s good to know that one of the principles of naturopathy is avoiding harm! The bigger question is how – and the answer is in the holistic, supportive and caring approach using safe and effective methods and medicinal substances to encourage your body’s natural healing processes and allowing time for healing.

3. Teacher – not doctor
Did you know that the original meaning of the word “doctor” is teacher? After all, no one knows your body better than you, and like a teacher, a naturopath will help you take responsibility for your own health by providing you with the knowledge you need to increase your health and wellness.

4. Holistic care
The parts of your body don’t exist in a vacuum – they’re all connected. Good health relies on a complex mix of physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social and other factors. That’s why a naturopath will give you a personalised, comprehensive and holistic program tailored to your unique needs.

5. Prevention
Wellness and the prevention of disease are the primary objectives of naturopathic medicine. It’s about knowing what works for your body and living a healthy lifestyle tailored to your own situation and unique needs so that you avoid getting health problems in the first place. With the help of a naturopath, you’ll learn more about your body so you can identify and then remove any obstacles to optimal health.
